  • January 11th, Mudslides caused by flooding kill more than 800 people in Rio de Janeiro
  • January 14th, The Tunisian government falls after demonstrations for more than a month. This is the start of what was later referred to as the Arab Spring, a revolutionary wave of demonstrations taking place in the Arab world.
  • February 11th, President of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak resigns after demonstrations and protests in Egypt, people calling for his resignation. Another revolution of the Arab Spring.
  • March 11th, A 9.1 magnitude earthquake hits Japan. The earthquake causes a tsunami hitting the east coast of Japan. The earthquake and tsunami ends up killing more than 15,000 people with thousands more missing.
  • March 15th, King of Bahrain declares a 3 month state of emergency and troops are sent to quell the civil unrest.
  • March 17th, The UN Security Council votes to create a no-fly over Libya to help civilians of the country against government aggression.
  • April 29th, It is estimated that almost 2 billion people watch the Royal wedding in UK between Prince William and Catherine Middelton.
  • May 1st, President Barrack Obama announces that Osama bin Laden has been killed in a military operation in Pakistan.

    Music festivals 2011.

  • February 22-27th, Noisepop in San Fransisco, headliners like Best Coast, Ben Gibbard and Dam Funk.
  • March 8-12th, Winter Music Conference, week long music festival and networking event for electronic dance music fans and artists. Held in South Beach in Miami.
  • March 25-27th, Ultra Music Festival in Miami, this is one of the biggest rave parties in the US with more than 100,00 visitors every year.
  • May 20-22th, Hangout Music Festival in Alabama, this is a pretty new festival featuring mostly rock music.
  • June 23-26th, Wanderlust Festival, this year held in Vermont. This festival focuses on rock, folk and electronic music.
  • June 29th - July 10th, Summerfest, the worlds largest music festival is held in Milwaukee, US. Headliners this year is Kayne West, Kate Perry, Kid Rock, Def Leppard and Meatloaf.
  • August 29th - September 5th, Burning Man is held in Black Rock City, Nevada. This festival is one of a kind, every part of this festival is bought in and set up by the participants, there is no official stage, no official showers, no official food sellers, etc.
  • December 31st, Together As One is held in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve, happening since 2002 more than 25,000 visitors party together at the LA Sports Arena and Grounds celebrating the coming of the new year.
